In May 2010 it was decided to convert the historical building „Altes Tauwerk“ in Donaufelderstraße into a modern residence for visiting scientists and lecturers as well as students and course participants.
 
STUWO’s new residence is situated directly alongside the campus of the University of Veterinary Medicine and there is a direct access to the university from the basement of the dorm. The extensively refurbished building offers a high degree of individual comfort for 32 occupants. The design of the spacious single rooms with integrated kitchen and bathroom makes it possible to combine several of them into a small apartment. The top-quality furniture and equipment is simply modifiable so that meeting special requests can be easily arranged with the management.
 
Use of the facilities (sauna, gym, two rehearsal rooms for musicians) in Haus Dückegasse, which is located directly opposite Donaufelderstraße, is free of charge. Parking space in the underground garage of Haus Dückegasse can be rented at a very reasonable price. This is a useful service offered by the management for single days as well as for longer periods.

Location and Surroundings

The Campus of the University of Veterinary Medicine is within 3 minutes’ walking distance. The inner city as well as the other important universities of Vienna (University of Vienna, WU, TU) can easily be reached by public transport within 25 to 30 minutes. There is a tram station “Donaufelderstraße” (line 26) located directly in front of the dorm, a bus station (Josef-Baumann-Gasse) is only 3 minutes away (Lines 27A and N20).
The underground line U1 will take you to the big shopping mall “Donauzentrum” within 10 minutes. The local supply is provided for by a big supermarket located directly opposite the residence and by many small shops in the neighbourhood. The nearby recreation area “Alte Donau” offers ideal conditions for a wide range of leisure activities.
 
How to get there by public transport:
Either U1 station Kagraner Platz → tram station Josef-Baumann-Gasse (line 26) or bus station Josef-Baumann-Gasse (line 27A; 3 stops) or U6 station Floridsdorf → tram station Josef-Baumann-Gasse (line 26, about 4 minutes)
 
How to get there by car:
motorway A 23, direction A 22/Praha/airport, exit B3 (Kagran) - Donaustraße (which later continues as Dückegasse)
Parking facilities:
parking space available in the neighbourhood (please check for short-time parking zones!) or in our underground garage (accessible via Nippongasse – please note: advance reservation/booking ONLY).

Individual telephone charges and the expenses for the laundry machines have to be paid separately. The rooms are allocated by STUWO and applicants are not entitled to a specific room. Interest accured on deposits will be credited to the account of the students’ representation.
 
A non-recurring administration fee of EUR 80,-- has to be paid upon signing the contract.
 
Deposit: EUR 700,-- (incl. VAT)
 
You can ask for reduction of desposit to EURO 300,-- (incl. VAT) for second and further siblings to STUWO-residents!
