Urban Art Festival Styria 2024 at STUWO StudentCity Graz

Written by Hannes Wagner, 08.08.2024

Student life meets art again at the Urban Art Festival Styria this year. In June 2019, the STUWO dormitory StudentCity Graz hosted the “Future Icons Festival” – an international festival for street art, graffiti and young innovative art – for the first time. The residence manager Christa Lorenz came up with the idea to turn the apartment building of STUWO StudentCity Graz into a “piece of art”. Since then numerous works of art and installations were added to the inside and outside areas as well as the underground parking. This year the STUWO dormitory once again becomes an open-air gallery and art laboratory. Workshops, urban art and live music await you.

The Top Acts: What you can expect at the Urban Arts Festival Styria

The many exciting and interesting programme items deliver interaction, inspiration, fun and entertainment. Here are a few highlights you shouldn’t miss!

An absolute highlight this year is the French designer Katell Gelebart. Her projects are entirely focused on sustainability, with the motto use everything “that is there”. Gelebart recycles old packaging, bottles, cartons, and clothing to create impressive clothing, jewelry, and furniture.

Daan Botlek, a sensational street artist from Rotterdam, showcases art that leaves plenty of room fro interpretation. Keep on the lookout for his trademark – white figures defying all rules of geometry and physic.

Viennese artist David Leitner is a visual artist specializing in (wall) painting and street art. His works are inspired by the human psyche, as well as random photographs and artificial intelligence.

The Danish artist Jacoba Niepoort is known for her impressive murals. The human psyche is at the center of her works – intertwined bodies resembling natural elements, thematizing connectedness and vulnerability.

There is also a lot to expect musically. SladoledLoveKomet heats up the atmosphere with Styrian pop, and those who celebrate Balkan music can check out Juan Carlos Sungurlian. An unusual highlight comes from Erasmus+ participants performing everything from Ukrainian avant-garde to Armenian music.
