Halloween Makeup Ideas: 6 simple instructions

written by: Kerstin Lakits, 21.10.2021

Back in the day, the Celts drove away evil spirits, but we make the night on 31 October to our spooky party. The spooky festival is perfect to celebrate with your friends or STUWO flatmates. But you still need ideas for your Halloween makeup? You want to impress everyone with your Halloween look and you’re wondering “Which Halloween makeup is the best?” Then we’ll show you six easy looks to try out this Halloween. So grab your mirror and costume. Have fun with your makeup!

Skull

Simple (but) creepy, this skull look is strongly reminiscent of the Mexican Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) traditions. The best thing about this makeup look is that you can wear whatever you want with it.

What you need:

  • Black eyeliner or black Halloween makeup
  • White lipstick or white Halloween makeup
  • Dark eye shadow

How to do it:

First, apply the white lipstick to your lips. Apply the eyeshadow to your eyelids and directly under your eyes to mimic dark eye sockets. With your black eyeliner, draw a line from one ear to the other below your cheekbones. You can make the line messier with some black eyeshadow. Blacken the tip of your nose with the eyeliner. Then draw “teeth” on your lips with the eyeliner by drawing vertical lines on your lips. That’s your scary Halloween look.

Spooky ghost

There’s nothing more appropriate for Halloween than ghosts. This simple look will turn you into a spooky ghost in no time. Paired with a white outfit, you’ll be the eye-catcher at every party.

What you need:

  • Dark lipstick
  • Dark eyeshadow
  • White (or very light) makeup

How to do it:

First, apply very dark lipstick on your lips. It doesn’t have to look perfect, but can be a little smudged. Then it’s time to whiten your face using the lightest make-up you have. Apply dark eyeshadow around your eyes – again, better messy than super neat. Your simple, spooky look is done.

Halloween pumpkin

Orange is your favourite colour? Then this spooky Halloween makeup look is perfect for you. It’s best to pair this makeup with an orange costume. Orange is the new black, isn’t it?

What you need:

  • Orange Halloween paint
  • Black eyeliner or black Halloween makeup
  • Black lipstick

How to do it:

The first step is quite simple: paint your whole face orange. Then take your lipstick and paint your lips black. Next, use your black eyeliner to draw vertical lines that resemble the lines of a pumpkin. Again, try not to be too perfect, but blend the lines a little bit.

Vampire

With this simple and quick Halloween look, you won’t glitter like the Cullen clan, but spread fear and terror. Vampires, the monsters of the night, are popular at Halloween parties.

What you need:

  • Dark red eyeshadow
  • Dark red lipstick
  • White (or very light) make-up
  • Possibly vampire fangs and fake blood

How to do it:

Vampires have never seen the sun, so try to make your complexion as pale as possible with your makeup. The paler, the better. Then apply dark red lipstick. Create a dramatic look with your eyeshadow by applying it generously and blending well at the edges. If you love to be dramatic, you can add vampire fangs and fake blood.

Clown

Stephen King’s IT instilled a clown phobia in all of us, but that’s exactly why you’ll be the terror of any party with this Halloween look. This look is for adrenaline junkies.

What you need:

  • Red lipstick
  • Red Halloween paint
  • Red eyeshadow

How to do it:

If you want, you can apply foundation to your face to create an even look. Then paint your lips red. With your red paint, draw two curved lines from the corners of your mouth to above your eyebrows (leaving out your eyes). Add two small dots above the drawn lines. Then finish off your quick Halloween look with red eye shadow.

Joker

Batman’s arch-nemesis is not to be trifled with. You want to show your crazy side on Halloween? Then this simple Halloween makeup is perfect for you. The ladies can easily turn it into a female Joker.

What you need:

  • Red lipstick or red Halloween paint
  • Black theatre colour or black eyeshadow
  • White (or very light) make-up
  • Possibly green hair colour (not permanent!)

How it works:

First, paint your face white. Then paint the biggest and scariest grin on your face with red lipstick. Colour your eyes completely with black eye shadow. The makeup here is not supposed to be neat, but should have a wild and chaotic touch, so smudge the edges.

All these Halloween makeup looks are quick and easy to do and you don’t need much equipment. You can find everything you need in a drugstore or a costume shop. So grab your gear and transform yourself into a spooky character of your choice. If you still need some ideas for Halloween, you can find our tips here!
