You can visit numerous wine cellars of the Kremser Weinhauer or enjoy fine wines and delicious wines in taverns or tasting rooms of qualified wine companies. A well-known Eldorado for wine lovers is the wine adventure world Sandgrube 13 by the Krems winegrowers. There you can taste and enjoy regional products – from wines and products from apricots to hand-scooped chocolate.

If you want to take a more leisurely approach to your summer vacation in order to recover from your semester, a ride on the Wachau cable car is the best option for you. The panoramic drive through the world cultural heritage and the breathtaking region opens up diversity in all its breadth and depth. The unique art of nature is also known as the garden of senses and has always inspired artists and thinkers from all over the world.
Aside from the main road, between ancient masonry, vineyards and flowering embankments, this train has been running for a good hundred years and connects Krems and Emmersdorf. The elevated railway line provides wonderful views of the beauty from the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Landesgalerie Niederösterreich is located on the Krems art mile and consists of about 100,000 objects. Including masterpieces from past centuries and outstanding examples of the present. The modern building with its incredible architecture was opened on May 25, 2019 and connects the holdings of the Lower Austria state collections with important private collections. Our tip: Be sure to visit the Poldi Fitzka restaurant on the ground floor of the Landesgalerie. In addition to an interior design that is definitely worth seeing, culinary delights from Lower Austria are also offered here. The restaurant pays special attention to regional products.
The art gallery Krems and the international exhibition center for contemporary art in Lower Austria, is in immediate vicinity. It shows art after 1945, with a focus on contemporary design. The art gallery is always worth a visit.

Aside from the historical, cultural and culinary sights, you can also have a good laugh in Krems. Where you may ask? In the Krems Caricature Museum, of course. It is Austria’s only museum for caricature, comic and cartoon. In 2020, the comic classics Fix & Foxi, the Smurfs, Spirou and Lucky Luke will have their own highlight exhibition. At the same time, the show “Tu felix Austria… draw!” Presents a representative selection of Austrian press illustrators from the past 25 years. The museum also has a permanent exhibition by artist Manfred Deix and the architect and caricaturist Gustav Peichl. Incidentally, the Krems Caricature Museum forms the Krems art mile with other museums and galleries such as the Minoritenkirche or the Forum Frohner.

The Benedictine monastery Melk Abbey is imposing on the banks of the Danube, world-famous and definitely worth a trip. The baroque building is a landmark of the Wachau and part of the UNESCO World Heritage as well. Among other things, it houses the Melk Abbey High School, the oldest still existing school in Austria. By the way: you can get from Krems to Melk very comfortably by ship!

Numerous bays along the Danube ensure great opportunities to cool off and the perfect summer feeling. They are the ideal place to relax properly. A special highlight is the beach in Weißenkirchen in the Wachau. It even has its own sandy beach! We also recommend the Danube pool directly in the village of Krems. Changing facilities, toilets and a children’s playground are available there. If you want to get active with friends, the beach volleyball court offers a pleasant change of scenery.
